TAB EXTENSIONS / SIDE AND CUT

We can die cut your index tabs in various lengths. Three unique tab extension lengths 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4" inches are available to create sub tabs and will help fully design your presentation.

TAB EXTENSIONS:

The TAB EXTENSION is the distance the tab extends beyond the main body of the paper.

EXAMPLES: The Sheet size (putting the binding edge first) is 11" x 8 1/2" + the TAB EXTENSION. Now your Sheet Size will read as 11 x 8 1/2". This will make the over all Size (of the paper) 11" x 9".

EXAMPLES: The sheet size (putting the binding edge first) is 11" x 8 1/2 + the TAB EXTENSION. Now your Sheet Size will read as 11 x 8 1/2 + 1/2". This will make the over all Size (of the paper) 11" x 9".

There are three standard TAB EXTENSIONS: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". These sizes enable you to create sub tabs.

NOTE: Many errors occur when a customer requests a short tab extension but fails to give the proper overall size.

EXAMPLE: An 11" x 8 1/2" + 1/4" sheet size makes the overall size 11" x 8 3/4". If this overall size was given incorrectly as 11" x 9", the product would be produced with a sheet size of 11" x 8 3/4" + 1/4", thus making the body of the tab larger than desired and ruining the use of sub tabs.

TAB SIZE / CUT

To determine the length of a tab, take the length of the sheet, subtract 1/2" for indents on each end and divide the balance by the number of tabs in one row. A row of tabs is called a "BANK". The term used for tab size is "CUT". We refer to 4 tabs in a BANK as "1/4 CUT". Thereby, we define the size and position of the tab. For example a 1/4 CUT tab an 11" sheet is figured as follows: 11" minus 1/2" minus 1/2" equals 10". Divide that by 4 and you get a 2 1/2" long tab. To reproduce the tab so it will always appear in the same position, the BANK is numbered in sequential order. If we wanted to refer to the # three tab in a row of five, we would say the third position in a fifth cut.
